A fire at a lithium battery factory in South Korea has killed at least 22 people, including 19 foreign nationals, local officials have said. The blaze broke out on Monday morning after a number of battery cells exploded at the Aricell plant in Hwaseong, an industrial city about 45km south of Seoul.

Over 100 people were working in the factory when workers heard a series of explosions from the second floor, where lithium-ion batteries are inspected and packaged, firefighter Kim Jin-young told the media. The plant is located in Hwaseong city, just south of the capital Seoul.
