Some 92% of Germany receives 5G coverage provided by at least one network operator. The proportion with 5G SA coverage already stands at 90% (as at April 2024). When the first data were collected in October 2021, 5G coverage was just 53%. It has therefore increased by almost 40 percentage points since then.
The Berlin Senate’s Gigabit strategy envisages state-wide mobile coverage with 5G by 2025. Within two years, the expansion was increased from 60.8% (January 2022) to 99% (January 2024). With research projects such as 5G Berlin, Berlin is getting ready for the future.
The updated map shows data from April 2024. 5G has been available in Germany since late 2019. The roll-out of the 5G network was initially based primarily on 4G infrastructure, with existing access networks being upgraded or new radio sites constructed.
The high-speed 5G is mainly used in densely populated regions. In addition, Telekom uses the longer-wave 2.1 GHz frequency. Deutsche Telekom expects to launch its Standalone 5G (SA) network in Germany depending on the use cases for the technology as well as the availability of devices, Goldenits recently said in a blog post.
German telco Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network already reached 55,000 base stations across Germany, the operator said in a release. According to the carrier, its 5G network infrastructure currently covers 85% of the German population. Deutsche Telekom also said it aims to exceed the 90% mark by the end of the year.
These have been increasingly connected to the 5G core network, resulting in a mobile communications network that is operated exclusively on the basis of 5G technology and referred to as 5G standalone. By creating a complete 5G network infrastructure and using only 5G frequencies, the advantages of the new 5G technology can be better utilised.
The global residential solar storage and inverter market is experiencing rapid expansion, with demand increasing by over 300% in the past three years. Home energy storage solutions now account for approximately 35% of all new residential solar installations worldwide. North America leads with 38% market share, driven by homeowner energy independence goals and federal tax credits that reduce total system costs by 26-30%. Europe follows with 32% market share, where standardized home storage designs have cut installation timelines by 55% compared to custom solutions. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest-growing region at 45% CAGR, with manufacturing innovations reducing system prices by 18% annually. Emerging markets are adopting residential storage for backup power and energy cost reduction, with typical payback periods of 4-7 years.
